Immo Klink wurde 1972 in Deutschland geboren und schloss zunächst ein Jurastudium mit dem Master ab, bevor er im Jahr 2000 als Assistent ins Studio von Wolfgang Tillmans in London eintrat – einem der einflussreichsten Fotografen der Gegenwart. Was folgte, war kein gradliniger Werdegang, sondern eine konsequente Suche nach einer eigenen fotografischen Sprache, die sich keiner Schublade fügt.
Immo Klink arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Editorial, Modefotografie und Film. Dokumentarische Ansätze in die Mode zu tragen und gleichzeitig kommerzielle Ästhetik in den Dokumentarismus einzubringen – das ist ein Kennzeichen seiner visuellen Sprache. Es ist diese Doppelbewegung, die sein Werk von konventioneller Modefotografie unterscheidet: Klink zeigt nicht, was Kleidung verspricht, sondern was sie über gesellschaftliche Realitäten verrät.
In einem seiner bekanntesten Projekte fotografierte er über zwei Jahre hinweg Geflüchtetencamps rund um Dünkirchen und Calais – und richtete dabei sein Auge nicht auf Elend und Anonymität, sondern auf die Art und Weise, wie die Menschen dort Kleidung als Ausdruck von Würde, Identität und Hoffnung nutzten. Mode als universelle Sprache, als kurzer Moment der Selbstbestimmung in extremen Verhältnissen – das ist eine fotografische Haltung von seltener Tiefe.
Klink hat politische Kampagnen für die Benetton Unhate Foundation, Shelter und Amnesty International entwickelt sowie kommerzielle Arbeiten für Levi’s, Google und weitere internationale Marken realisiert. Seine redaktionellen Beiträge erschienen in Another Magazine, Dazed & Confused, I-D, The New York Times und L’Officiel. Seine Werke wurden in Institutionen wie dem Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne und der Fabrica in Treviso ausgestellt.

Immo Klink was born in 1972 in Germany and completed a Master of Laws before joining Wolfgang Tillmans‘ studio in London in 2000 – one of the most influential photographers of our time. What followed was not a straightforward career path but a consistent search for a photographic language that resists easy categorisation.
Immo Klink works across the genres of art, editorial, fashion photography and film. Taking documentary approaches into fashion while introducing commercial aesthetics into documentary, art and campaigning is a constant in his visual language. It is this double movement that distinguishes his work from conventional fashion photography: Klink does not show what clothing promises, but what it reveals about social realities.
In one of his most widely recognised projects, he spent two years photographing migrant camps around Dunkirk and Calais – turning his lens not towards misery and anonymity, but towards the way people used clothing as an expression of dignity, identity and hope. Fashion as a universal language, as a brief moment of self-determination under extreme conditions – this is a photographic attitude of rare depth.
Klink has developed political campaigns for the Benetton Unhate Foundation, Shelter and Amnesty International, as well as commercial work for Levi’s, Google and other international brands.
