BRUNO BISANG

Bruno Bisang wurde 1952 in Ascona geboren und wuchs im italienischsprachigen Teil der Schweiz auf. Mit 19 Jahren begann er sein Studium an der Kunstgewerbeschule für Fotografie in Zürich, gefolgt von einer fotografischen Ausbildung. Seit 1979 arbeitet er als freischaffender Fotograf – zunächst in Zürich, dann in Mailand und München. Heute ist er zwischen Mailand, New York, Zürich und Paris tätig.

Was Bruno Bisang von Anfang an antrieb, war nicht die Dokumentation der Welt, sondern ihre Verklärung. Die Filmwelt der 1950er Jahre – ihre Wärme, ihre Dramatik, die Faszination ihrer Stars – war seine erste große Liebe und der eigentliche Ursprung seiner fotografischen Haltung. Diese Affinität zum Filmischen, zur Inszenierung von Licht und Stimmung, prägt sein gesamtes Werk bis heute.

Seine Modefotografien entstanden für die bedeutendsten internationalen Publikationen – darunter Vogue, GQ, Cosmopolitan und Madame Figaro – sowie für Werbekampagnen von Chanel, Givenchy, Chopard, Cartier und Wolford. Vor seiner Kamera standen einige der bekanntesten Gesichter der Welt: Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Monica Bellucci und Carla Bruni, um nur einige zu nennen.

Doch Bisang ist mehr als ein Modefotograf. Seine Fine-Art-Arbeiten – insbesondere die Aktfotografie – sind von einer Qualität, die Sinnlichkeit und Eleganz in ein sorgfältig ausgewogenes Verhältnis bringt. Durch den präzisen Einsatz von Licht und Schatten entstehen Bilder von zeitloser Ästhetik, die nicht den Körper allein zeigen, sondern die Persönlichkeit hinter ihm ahnen lassen. Sein Fotobuch „Exposure“ ist ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis dieser künstlerischen Haltung.

Bruno Bisang was born in 1952 in Ascona and grew up in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. At the age of 19 he began his studies at the School of Applied Arts for Photography in Zurich, followed by a photographic apprenticeship. Since 1979 he has worked as a freelance photographer – initially in Zurich, then in Milan and Munich. Today he works between Milan, New York, Zurich and Paris.

What drove Bruno Bisang from the outset was not the documentation of the world, but its transfiguration. The cinema of the 1950s – its warmth, its drama, the fascination of its stars – was his first great love and the true origin of his photographic sensibility. This affinity for the cinematic, for the staging of light and atmosphere, runs through his entire body of work to this day.

His fashion photography has appeared in the most significant international publications – among them Vogue, GQ, Cosmopolitan and Madame Figaro – as well as in advertising campaigns for Chanel, Givenchy, Chopard, Cartier and Wolford. Some of the most recognised faces in the world have stood before his lens: Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Monica Bellucci and Carla Bruni, to name but a few.

Yet Bisang is more than a fashion photographer. His fine art work – in particular his nude photography – achieves a quality that places sensuality and elegance in careful equilibrium. Through the precise use of light and shadow, he creates images of timeless aesthetic that reveal not only the body, but suggest the personality behind it. His photobook „Exposure“ (teNeues, 2004) stands as a compelling testament to this artistic vision.
